The mission of the Kentucky Foundation for Women is to promote positive social change by supporting varied feminist expression in the arts. When women and girls advance, so does Kentucky.

KFW carries out this mission through:

Two Grant Programs: Each year the Foundation awards $200,000 to feminist artists and social change organizations in Kentucky through two grant programs: Artist Enrichment and Art Meets Activism.

Residencies and Retreats for women and girls: Hopscotch House Retreat and Residency Center is a KFW program that serves women and girls in Kentucky by providing a supportive setting for feminist artists and activists to create, connect, and convene.

The KFW Hot Flash: E-News for Everyone: Weekly and Special Edition emails include announcements, opportunities, and action steps.

Creating and sharing resources about feminism and social change: Check out the KFW Feminist Timeline. Have fun taking the Women’s History Quiz to test your knowledge. If you don’t know all the answers, don’t worry, see the Answers to the Women’s History Quiz, and learn more about our foremothers. If you visit Hopscotch House, be sure to spend time in the Library there, which offers a wide variety of websites, books, articles, and artwork on feminism and activism.

Although KFW focuses on Kentucky, you can participate in feminist art and social change wherever you live!

We promote local artists and community!

EquallyYours is a multi-media project that promotes Louisville, KY Artists and the Community. EquallyYours features local artists’ works on billboards, along with their name and the EquallyYours website url. This website offers more information about all of the artists, their work and their connection to the community.

The artists involved with this project have provided the art that was used in the billboard designs, their reflection of the work and the connection they have to the community. Visiting the site is an opportunity to read this and view the other artists involved with the project.

EquallyYours started in 2009 with a grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women and has been able to continue due a large donation from Maloney Outdoor Advertising and Associaed Posters.

We leverage communications technologies to enable teens to convert their ideas and energy into action. It is our aim to inspire, empower and celebrate a generation doers: young people who recognize the need to do something, believe in their ability to get it done, and then take action.

We understand teens. We provide resources and opportunities that work on their terms. Bottom line, Do Something has three rules: no money, no cars, no adults. We never fundraise from teens. We go where teens are and don’t ask them to travel out of their communities or comfort zones. We never require an adult advisor or chaperone.

Proceeds from this event support St. Joe’s Residential Treatment Program, helping to purchase visual art supplies as well as create workshops staffed and funded by S.E.E for the children served in this program. St. Joe’s Residential Treatment Program serves approximately 85 girls and boys, ages 6-14, each year. The Therapeutic Foster Care and Adoption Program serves approximately 70 girls and boys, ages newborn to 18 years old. The majority of the children are developmentally disabled, and at least two years behind academically. The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services places children who have been victims of neglect, physical, mental or sexual abuse or a combination of several of these factors in treatment centers. St. Joseph Children’s Home provides children with an Activities Program, providing educational, cultural and recreational opportunities that most of the children have never experienced. The majority of our children have not had a childhood. It is crucial that we provide the children these activities, and give them back a part of their lost childhood. On behalf of S.E.E. and St Joseph Children’s Home, we appreciate your donations and involvement.
